Mumbai, August 19: NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar addressed various issues during a press conference on Wednesday, specifically targeting the BJP regarding allegations of corruption related to the Ram Mandir fundraising. He recalled the BJP’s 2014 slogan, “Na Khaunga, Na Khane Dunga” (I will not eat, nor let anyone eat), which aimed to convey a strong anti-corruption message to the public. However, Pawar pointed out that despite numerous instances of corruption in various projects, no stringent actions have been taken.
Pawar highlighted the controversy surrounding the Ram Mandir fundraising, stating that after centuries of struggle, the public had decided to gather funds for the temple. Unfortunately, he claimed that there have been irregularities amounting to approximately ₹1,500 crores. He noted that individuals aligned with BJP ideologies were part of the Ram Mandir committee, and when the matter came to light, some members were suspended, leading to their resignations.
Following this, an SIT was formed by the Uttar Pradesh government to investigate the allegations. However, Pawar expressed disbelief that those involved were given a clean chit after the investigation. He stated, “It is clear that the same people who commit theft are the ones forming committees and later absolving themselves of wrongdoing.”
Pawar expressed confidence that the electorate in Uttar Pradesh would respond appropriately in the upcoming assembly elections, asserting that the BJP would pay a heavy price for their actions. He cautioned that if the BJP believes they can mislead the public with their cunning, it is a grave misunderstanding.
Additionally, he commented on changes made by the Maharashtra government to the Rules of Business, indicating that previous unofficial practices have now been formalized. He raised concerns about whether Chief Minister Eknath Shinde would intervene in decisions made under the new rules, emphasizing that the political landscape remains under scrutiny.
Pawar accused the BJP of attempting to eliminate any opposition in the political arena, particularly targeting those who support Congress. He concluded by stating that the BJP is gearing up for the 2029 elections, striving to create a favorable environment for themselves.
