Jaipur, February 13 (Udaipur Kiran): The state government has taken strict action in cases related to fake degrees and irregularities in private universities. Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister Prem Chand Bairwa informed the Assembly that investigations have been ordered against 10 private universities. The information was shared in response to a question raised by MLA Kalicharan Saraf.

Following serious allegations, OPJS University was dissolved on January 7. Administrative responsibility of the university has been handed over to the Divisional Commissioner, Bikaner. Several accused employees and middlemen have been arrested and sent to jail in connection with the case.
In the fake degree case at Mewar University, guilty staff members have also been arrested. Investigations into other universities are continuing.
Dr Bairwa stated that 53 private universities are currently operating in the state. Complaints of irregularities have led to investigations against 10 institutions.
Universities under investigation include Singhania University, Sunrise University, Shridhar University, Madhav University, Raffles University, Nirwan University, University of Technology and Jagdishprasad Jhabarmal Tibrewala University.
After allegations of irregularities in the Physical Education Teacher Recruitment Examination–2022, a comprehensive probe into certain universities has been handed over to the Special Operations Group (SOG). Police investigations revealed complaints of issuing backdated degrees and mark sheets. In this connection, several former officials and alleged middlemen, including OPJS University operator Jogendra Singh, have been arrested.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the process to constitute a regulatory commission for effective control over private higher education institutions has been initiated. A new committee has been formed to strengthen the provisions of the Rajasthan Private Higher Education Institution Regulatory Authority Bill–2023. Provisions of the National Education Policy–2020 will also be incorporated, and the revised draft will soon be sent to the Law Department.
