Chittorgarh, March 9, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) : Kashmiri students once again staged a protest at Mewar University in Chittorgarh over the issue of recognition of their degrees. The students raised slogans inside the university campus, expressing concern about their future and the value of their academic qualifications.
During the protest, several students became emotional and said that if their degrees are not recognised, their future will be ruined. Some of them said their parents are already worried and distressed about the situation.
Amid the protest, one student allegedly attempted to pour petrol on himself in an apparent suicide attempt. However, police personnel present at the spot immediately intervened and stopped him.
During the commotion, police detained 17 students and took them to the police station. A large police force was deployed inside and outside the university campus to maintain law and order.
Gangrar police station SHO Shyamram said that the students had attempted to pour petrol on themselves in a suicide attempt. He said the students are currently being counselled and asked to present their concerns peacefully.
The SHO further stated that if any student attempts self-immolation or creates obstruction in government work, legal action may be taken. Police have registered a case against 17 students for obstructing government work and attempting suicide.
