
Udaipur. A male panther was found dead near the Mount Abu-Pindwara highway near Ghasiyar on Thursday. The panther had head injuries. The forest department is investigating the matter. The department is prima facie considering it to be a death due to an accident.
According to Regional Forest Officer Surendra Singh Shekhawat, at around 10 am, information was received that a dead panther was lying 200 meters away from the road near Ghasiyar on the Mount Abu-Pindwara highway. On this, Baroda Naka in-charge Lalchand was sent to the spot with his team. They brought the panther’s body to the Chetak Veterinary Hospital in Udaipur and conducted a postmortem. After this, the last rites were performed at the Debari Range premises.
It is initially believed that the panther was injured by a vehicle on the highway on Wednesday night, which walked away injured towards Ghasiyar. Where he died. The postmortem report is awaited to confirm the cause of death. The forest department is also investigating whether the panther was hit by a vehicle or died due to some other reason.
