Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif Calls Ceasefire With India ‘In Everyone’s Interest’, Thanks China and Saudi Arabia

Islamabad, May 10 — Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday addressed the nation, terming the recently announced India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement as a step “in everyone’s interest” and a reflection of Pakistan’s commitment to peace. His statement comes amid renewed diplomatic attention to the decades-long tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

In his televised address, Sharif emphasized the constructive approach taken by Pakistan during the conflict and expressed gratitude towards Saudi Arabia and China for their mediatory roles in de-escalating hostilities.

Sharif Emphasizes Peace, Alleges Indian Aggression

“Pakistan is a responsible nation. We have demonstrated time and again that we stand for peace,” Sharif said. “The ceasefire agreement benefits everyone and has been welcomed with a positive spirit by Pakistan.”

Despite his message of peace, Sharif also leveled serious allegations against India, accusing New Delhi of killing civilians, targeting mosques, and spreading misinformation. He claimed Indian forces destroyed Pakistani military installations and killed several soldiers during recent hostilities.

“India is misleading the international community with false narratives, while the ground reality paints a starkly different picture,” he asserted.

Call for Dialogue and Resolution of Core Issues

Sharif further expressed hope for dialogue on key issues, including water disputes and the Kashmir conflict, stating that the ceasefire could pave the way for long-term peace if both sides act responsibly.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regaining its dignity: “We will not rest until Pakistan reclaims its lost honor. With the grace of God, that day is not far.”

Sharif also acknowledged the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump, praising Washington’s support in promoting regional stability.

Ceasefire Agreement Followed by Renewed Tensions

The ceasefire announcement made jointly by India and Pakistan on Saturday evening was expected to halt cross-border attacks and ceasefire violations. However, reports emerged just hours later of Pakistani shelling across the Line of Control in Kashmir. Additionally, Pakistani drones were sighted in parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat, raising concerns over the credibility and enforcement of the agreement.

While the ceasefire brings a temporary lull in direct hostilities, analysts remain cautious, noting Pakistan’s mixed signals and India’s heightened vigilance amid fragile geopolitical dynamics.
