Saudi Arabia Intercepts Houthi Missiles Targeting Riyadh and Eastern Province
Saudi Arabia's military intercepted missiles aimed at Riyadh and its Eastern province, causing damage but no injuries. Houthi attacks have escalated recently.

RIYADH, Nov 8: Saudi Arabia’s air defenses intercepted missiles launched by the Houthi movement that targeted Riyadh and the Eastern Province, according to the Saudi-led coalition.
On Sunday, the coalition reported that several ballistic missiles were destroyed, including two aimed at Riyadh. A missile attack caused damage to an administrative building of Saudi Aramco in the King Abdullah Financial District. However, authorities indicated that the impact was minimal, leading to no reported injuries or fatalities.
A senior source from the Saudi Energy Ministry stated that the incident resulted in falling shrapnel damaging the Aramco building, but the situation was under control. A witness mentioned seeing ambulances near the location, although official reports confirmed no casualties.
The Houthi rebel group, formally known as Ansar Allah, has intensified attacks on Saudi targets since a truce in Yemen’s civil war broke down in July. Major-General Turki al-Maliki, a spokesperson for the coalition, noted that in addition to the missiles targeting Riyadh, two additional missiles were intercepted in the southern region. The coalition also reportedly thwarted a drone attack.
In a separate incident, the Houthi-run Health Ministry claimed that airstrikes in Yemen by the Saudi-led coalition killed 33 people, including women and children, near the capital Sanaa. Houthi official Mahdi al-Mashat stated, “We will punish the Saudi regime for its crimes against the Yemeni people.” The ongoing violence has resulted in significant casualties on both sides, with over 1,600 deaths and nearly 300,000 displacements since the collapse of the ceasefire.
The Houthis have previously targeted significant infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, including airports and oil facilities, in retaliation for ongoing Saudi military operations in Yemen. Recent reports indicate that the Houthis have launched multiple operations against Saudi oil facilities and military targets, exacerbating regional tensions.
