Muzaffarpur, December 28 – In view of the ongoing severe cold and continuous drop in minimum temperatures, the district administration has ordered the closure of all schools up to the 8th grade until January 1, 2026.
The District Magistrate, Subrat Kumar Sen, issued this precautionary order considering the possible adverse effects on children’s health and safety. The District Education Officer has been directed to suspend all academic activities in schools until the specified date.
According to the order, all government and private schools in the district will remain closed for classes up to 8th grade from December 29, 2025, to January 1, 2026. Additionally, classes above 8th grade will operate only between 10:00 am and 3:30 pm during this period.
Earlier, under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defense Code 2023, a complete ban on academic activities for classes up to 8 (including pre-school and Anganwadi centres) had been imposed until December 28, which has now been extended to January 1.
The order aims to protect children from health problems caused by extreme cold weather. The District Magistrate has instructed the District Education Officer, all Sub-Divisional Officers, and school management to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
However, special classes and examinations related to board exam preparations are exempted from this order to avoid disruption in students’ academic progress. Schools have also been advised to take special care of children’s safety, health, and comfort, and to make necessary arrangements for protection against cold.
Strict action will be taken against schools that violate the order.
The District Magistrate has appealed to parents to prioritise their children’s health, ensure they wear adequate warm clothing, and follow all necessary precautions to protect them from the cold.
