Udaipur, February 2 (Udaipur Kiran): Member of Parliament Dr Mannalal Rawat on Monday raised the issue of severe shortage of teachers in higher education institutions in Parliament, stating that it is adversely affecting the education system and limiting employment opportunities for the youth.

Speaking under Rule 377, Dr Rawat said he recently visited the Government Girls College, Kherwara in his parliamentary constituency, where tribal girl students informed him that teaching posts have been lying vacant for a long time. He said the prolonged vacancies are directly impacting their studies and academic quality.
The MP said this is not an isolated case and that similar conditions prevail in universities and colleges across the country. He noted that crores of young people, referred to as the “Amrit Peedhi”, are pursuing higher education, and experienced, permanent teachers play a crucial role in their skill development, academic understanding and overall personality building.
Dr Rawat said that due to the large number of vacant teaching posts, not only is the education system suffering, but employment opportunities for qualified youth are also being restricted. He added that filling these vacancies at the earliest would ensure quality education and also generate large-scale employment.
He urged the government to direct the University Grants Commission to ensure speedy recruitment of teachers in universities and colleges across all states. He also appealed for special central assistance from the Union government to address the issue on priority.
