ChildLine co-ordinator Bhojraj Singh said that the police took the minor to the room inside the Bheruji temple where the accused used to abused her sexually on a regular basis . “The accused is a self proclaimed Bhopa and influenced the simple villagers on the name of getting them cured of various ailments. The village is comparatively small comprising of 30-40 houses and most of the people visited the devra” Bhojraj said. The Bhopa knew that the minor’s parents wouldnt dare to complaint and hence he was fearless.
The caste panchayat too tried to settle the case however, a phone call by one of an alert villager exposed the Bhopa’s misconduct. ” Initially the girl was believed to be 13-14 years old but we found a school record of the minor and according to the date of birth mentioned in the record, the girl is 17 years and 11 months old. Her parents were planning to get her pregnancy terminated, however it is late now and she will have to continue with it” a reliable source from the childline informed.
