Beijing, July 3: The Information Office of the Tibet Autonomous Region recently held a press conference detailing significant achievements in transportation development during the 14th Five-Year Plan and key points for the 15th Five-Year Plan.
According to the introduction, Tibet’s railway industry has experienced rapid growth. The construction of the Lhasa-Nyingchi railway has been completed and is now operational, fulfilling the dream of people from all ethnic groups to travel to Lhasa by high-speed train.
Tibet has nearly completed the main framework of its highway network, which includes “four vertical, three horizontal, and eight corridors.” By the end of 2025, the total length of highways open to traffic in the region is expected to reach 125,200 kilometers, an increase of over 6,000 kilometers compared to the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period. An expressway transport cycle has been established, connecting “five cities within three hours” with Lhasa at its center, linking all seven provinces and cities in the region with existing or under-construction high-grade highways. Access rates to roads in towns and administrative villages have reached 100% and 92.48%, respectively.
