Victoria, June 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Seychelles on Saturday for an official visit at the invitation of President Dr. Patrick Herminie. During his visit, PM Modi will pay his respects at the only Ganesh temple in Seychelles, the Shri Navshakti Vinayak Mandir. The Indian community residing in Seychelles is excited to welcome the Prime Minister, with special preparations underway at various locations, including the temple.
Sundari Jawahar, a member of the executive committee of the Shri Navshakti Vinayak Mandir in Victoria, shared, “We came to Seychelles as foreign workers 35 years ago and later obtained citizenship. My husband and I are now citizens of Seychelles, and our children have grown up here, so we are deeply connected to this community.”
She further noted that the mutual understanding between the governments of India and Seychelles is strong, as the Indian government is assisting in strengthening maritime areas. “We share maritime boundaries in the Indian Ocean, and they are helping us in this regard. We receive significant support from the Indian government in every sector, be it education or health,” she added.
Kandasamy Natesan, chairman of the Hindu Kovil Sangam Shri Navshakti Vinayak Mandir, stated that the temple is a center of faith for the local people, with thousands visiting daily. “The temple is always kept clean. Now that we have heard that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming, there is immense joy among the people, and celebrations are underway,” he said.
For the past ten days, the community has been eagerly awaiting the Prime Minister’s visit. “This is a moment of great joy. People are looking forward to the moment when PM Modi will be present here for darshan,” he added.
The temple priest expressed his happiness, saying, “This is a significant occasion. I would also like to thank Lord Vishnu, Goddess Durga, Lord Navagraha, and Lord Shiva. There is great enthusiasm among everyone regarding the Prime Minister’s arrival.”
Jagdish Singh, an Indian-origin resident in Victoria, remarked that this is the only Ganesh temple in Seychelles. “We have heard that the Indian Prime Minister is coming here. The temple committee and all of us are ready to welcome him. The relationship between India and Seychelles has always been good, and we are prepared for PM Modi’s visit,” he said.
