Bhopal, March 16: As Madhya Pradesh braces for rising summer heat, relief might be around the corner with rainfall expected to cool down several regions between March 18 and 19. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light showers could bring relief to major cities, including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Narmadapuram, and Shahdol, temporarily reducing temperatures across the state.

Rain to Bring Relief After Rising Temperatures
Temperatures have risen sharply across Madhya Pradesh, with several cities nearing the 40-degree Celsius mark. Regions like Narmadapuram recorded a maximum temperature of 39.8°C, while Khajuraho witnessed 39.6°C, and Mandla recorded 39.3°C on Saturday. Ratlam and Damoh also touched 39°C.
However, meteorological experts have predicted a short break from intense heat as a fresh weather system becomes active over the state between March 18-19. During this period, scattered rainfall and cloudy conditions will prevail, causing a noticeable drop in both day and night temperatures by about 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.
Cyclonic Circulation Triggering Weather Changes
Currently, a cyclonic circulation active over Rajasthan is influencing weather patterns in Madhya Pradesh. This system has already caused scattered showers and cloudy conditions in areas like Jhabua, Ratlam, Bhind, Morena, Panna, Chhatarpur, and Tikamgarh.
Although this system is expected to move away shortly, another weather disturbance will become active by March 18, leading to rainfall in several districts, especially in eastern Madhya Pradesh, on March 19.
Temperature to Drop Across Major Cities
The weather department forecasts relief for major cities:
- Bhopal and Indore: Both cities will experience scattered rainfall and cooler conditions over the weekend.
- Gwalior and Jabalpur: Mild showers are likely, bringing down the soaring temperatures significantly.
- Shahdol and Narmadapuram: These regions will also see relief from persistent heat, as rains will lower the mercury levels.
Severe Heatwave Predicted for April and May
While short-term relief is expected, the IMD has warned that Madhya Pradesh could face intense heatwaves this year, particularly in April and May. Temperatures in regions like Gwalior, Chambal, Jabalpur, Rewa, Shahdol, and Sagar could soar above 45°C during these months. Cities including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Narmadapuram are also expected to experience hotter-than-usual conditions.
