Lok Sabha elections 2024 : 12 Lok Sabha Seats Witness 6.15% Decrease in Voter Turnout Compared to 2019

Jaipur : The first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan has concluded with voting on Friday. Political parties are analyzing the voter turnout figures according to their own calculations. Compared to 2019, this time there has been a 6.15% decrease in voter turnout across these 12 seats. In the 2019 elections, these same 12 seats had witnessed a voter turnout of 64.02%, which has now dropped to 57.88%.

In the first phase of Rajasthan’s elections, out of the total 57.88% voter turnout, 57.26% was through EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines), and 0.62% through postal ballots. Chief Election Officer Praveen Gupta states that there could be various reasons for the decline in voter turnout. Efforts were made to raise voter awareness, and new initiatives were introduced to encourage voting. The aim was to increase voter participation.

Analyzing the numbers reveals that the Shri Ganganagar seat recorded a 65.64% voter turnout this time, compared to 74.77% in 2019. This represents a decrease of 8.51% from the previous election. Similarly, in the Bikaner seat, the voter turnout was 53.96%, whereas it was 59.43% in 2019. This indicates a decrease of 5.02%. The Churu seat saw a 62.98% turnout, down from 65.90% in 2019, a decrease of 2.32%. Jhunjhunu recorded 52.29% turnout, compared to 62.11% in 2019, a decrease of 9.14%. The Sikar seat had a 57.28% turnout, which is 7% less than 2019’s 65.18%.

Similarly, Jaipur Rural witnessed a 56.58% voter turnout, down by 8.02% from 2019’s 65.54%. Jaipur Urban had a 62.87% turnout, compared to 68.48% in 2019, a decrease of 5%. Alwar recorded 59.79% voting, which is 6.84% less than 2019’s 67.17%. Bharatpur saw 52.69% turnout, down from 59.11% in 2019, a decrease of 5.80%. In Karauli-Dholpur, the voter turnout was 49.29%, compared to 55.18% in 2019.
