Landslide in Kullu: Two Youths Feared Trapped Under Debris After Heavy Rain

Kullu, 3 September (Kiran News): Heavy rain continues to cause havoc in Kullu district, with a landslide late Tuesday night trapping two youths under debris. The incident occurred in the Inner Akhara Bazaar area of Kullu town when large rocks and mud suddenly tumbled down from the Math hillside onto residential houses.

The landslide caused a loud explosion-like sound, shaking the entire market and creating panic among residents. As the debris approached the houses, most people managed to escape onto the street. However, during a later headcount, it was discovered that one NDRF personnel and another youth had not come out.

The landslide damaged the homes of Neelkanth Sood, Sita Devi, and Buba Bharti. Upon receiving the alert, the Deputy Commissioner of Kullu, the Superintendent of Police, and the entire administration rushed to the spot. Three rescue teams, including NDRF, Home Guard, and fire service personnel, were quickly formed to begin relief and rescue operations. However, the ongoing rain forced a temporary halt to the rescue mission.

The missing youths have been identified as Narendra (32), an NDRF member from Byasar, Kullu district, and Ahmeer (21) from Kashmir.
