New Delhi, May 12: Union Minister for Food, Public Distribution, and Consumer Affairs, Prahlad Joshi, has launched a sharp attack on the Congress government in Karnataka, accusing it of merely increasing inflation, engaging in appeasement politics, and being mired in internal power struggles among its legislators and ministers.
Joshi stated that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is “wasting time criticizing others instead of fixing his own house.” In response to Siddaramaiah’s statement that Prime Minister Modi’s speech was “filled with lies and hatred,” Joshi challenged the Chief Minister to address questions regarding his government’s administrative failures and the ongoing internal conflicts over power before criticizing the Prime Minister.
He claimed that the true face of the Congress government has now been exposed, asserting that it excels only in advertising. Joshi highlighted several administrative failures of the state government and launched a vigorous attack on its performance.
He alleged that under the guise of guarantee schemes, the Congress government has ensnared Karnataka in a web of debt. He pointed out that development work has come to a standstill, roads are filled with potholes, and contractors have not been paid their dues. Meanwhile, the burden of rising prices continues to weigh heavily on the common people.
Criticizing Siddaramaiah further, Joshi remarked that although the Chief Minister often presents himself as an “economic expert,” he has driven Karnataka’s economy into a pit. He accused the government of losing its way due to power struggles within, and added that the government has betrayed the public by increasing the prices of 48 essential items, including milk and fuel.
Joshi defended PM Modi, stating that while the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government saw a decline in India’s economy, under Modi’s leadership, India has emerged as the world’s fourth-largest economy. He challenged Siddaramaiah to answer questions related to the power struggles and administrative deadlock within his own government before questioning others.
He also noted that under Siddaramaiah’s rule, Karnataka’s debt burden has rapidly increased, with the revenue deficit reaching historically high levels, breaking all previous records. Referring to Siddaramaiah’s use of the term “betrayal,” Joshi stated that the Chief Minister should first address the betrayal occurring with the Congress’s coalition partners. He accused the Congress party of repeatedly betraying its alliance partners, undermining regional mandates, and toppling several governments.
