18th BRICS Summit Scheduled for May 14-15 in India

New Delhi, May 12: India is set to host the 18th BRICS Summit on May 14 and 15, 2026. The Ministry of External Affairs has released the schedule for this two-day summit. The previous 17th BRICS Summit was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

According to the Ministry, foreign ministers will arrive at Bharat Mandapam at 10 AM on Thursday, May 14. The first session will commence at 10:30 AM, followed by a joint meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at ‘Seva Teerth’ at 1 PM.

The second session will start at 3:10 PM, and a dinner hosted by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will take place at Bharat Mandapam at 7 PM. The third session will begin at 10 AM on the following day, May 15.

The 13th BRICS Summit was previously held in India on September 9, 2021, with the theme ‘BRICS 15: Intra-BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation, and Consensus.’ Leaders adopted the New Delhi Declaration, marking the 15th anniversary of BRICS, emphasizing the need for reform in the multilateral system, counter-terrorism cooperation, the use of digital tools to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and enhancing transactions among people.

India has streamlined BRICS operations, making discussions more accessible and initiating new ministerial-level tracks such as the Digital Health Summit and the first Water Ministers’ Meeting.

Foreign ministers from Brazil, Russia, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Indonesia are expected to attend the meeting. Reports suggest that the United Arab Emirates will be represented at the deputy foreign minister level, and Iran is also likely to send a delegation at a similar level, while a sherpa delegation from China is anticipated.

Discussions at the summit are expected to cover issues such as the Global South, multilateral cooperation, economic partnerships, regional security, and current geopolitical tensions. India has set the theme for its BRICS presidency as ‘Building for Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,’ launching the ‘BRICS 2026’ website, theme, and logo on January 13 after taking over the presidency.
