Ireland Sets High Target Against Oman in T20 World Cup

Colombo, February 14: Ireland faced Oman in a Group B match at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo. Batting first, Ireland scored 235 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Oman won the toss and opted to bowl first. Ireland’s start was shaky, losing both openers, Tim Tector and Ross Adair, for just 25 runs. They lost their third wicket, Harry Tector, at 45 and Curtis Campher at 64, putting them in a difficult position.

However, captain Lorcan Tucker and Gareth Delany stabilized the innings with a remarkable partnership of 101 runs for the fifth wicket off just 56 balls, bringing the score to 165. Delany scored 56 runs off 30 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 3 fours before getting out.

After Delany’s dismissal, Tucker teamed up with George Dockrell to add 50 runs for the sixth wicket in just 19 balls. Dockrell remained unbeaten at 35 runs off 9 balls, hitting 5 sixes. Tucker, who scored 94 runs off 51 balls with 4 sixes and 10 fours, missed the chance to complete his century as he did not get to bat in the final over.

Ireland’s total of 235 runs marks their highest score in T20 matches and is also the highest score in a single innings in the T20 World Cup. Ireland is now looking for their first win in the T20 World Cup 2026, and this match could potentially end that wait.
