Udaipur: Hindustan Zinc’s Zawar Mines has launched a mega tree plantation drive in Zawar, reinforcing the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability and livelihood enhancement. Speaking at the plantation event in Rawa village, Udaipur MP Mannalal Rawat said that Hindustan Zinc holds a significant position not only in Rajasthan but also across India in the mining sector. He praised the company’s commendable work in social development and nature conservation within its operational areas.

Rawat said that Hindustan Zinc’s greening efforts in the Zawar region will play an exemplary role in providing a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations. He appreciated initiatives like the Sakhi programme and Nand Ghar, stating that the company’s CSR activities have contributed positively to the development of surrounding panchayats. Urging community participation in the campaign, he said, “Planting a tree is a noble act that is remembered forever.”
Green Zawar Initiative Aims to Plant Over 50,000 Trees
As part of its commitment to sustainability and community development, Hindustan Zinc has launched a mega plantation drive under the ‘Green Zawar’ initiative near Zawar Mines. The campaign aims to plant over 50,000 trees across villages in the operational areas within the coming month. Over 8,000 saplings have already been planted, laying a strong foundation for a greener Rajasthan.
The campaign began in Rawa village of Zawar Panchayat with active participation from dignitaries including MP Mannalal Rawat, Rajasthan Revenue Minister Hemant Meena, Udaipur Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena, Salumber MLA Shanta Devi, Hindustan Zinc CHRO Munish Vasudeva, COO Kishore S, Zawar Mines IBU CEO Anshul Khandelwal, and Lalu Ram Meena, General Secretary of the Zawar Mines Workers Union. The symbolic plantation was followed by the official launch ceremony at the Zawar Community Centre.
Support from Government and Local Representatives
Revenue Minister Hemant Meena remarked that Hindustan Zinc’s plantation drive supports campaigns like Hariyalo Rajasthan and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam. He emphasised the collective responsibility of preserving nature and praised Hindustan Zinc for not only planting trees but also nurturing them until maturity. He suggested prioritising native plant species that can be sustainably protected in the region.
Tree Plantation for a Sustainable Future
CHRO Munish Vasudeva said the company contributes to environmental protection through regular plantation drives. “Planting trees is not just about greenery, it’s about shaping the future. We all must commit to building a better tomorrow,” he added.
This large-scale campaign includes planting medicinal plants, fruit-bearing trees, and native species selected for biodiversity restoration and long-term ecological benefits. During the event, saplings were distributed by guests to Sakhi women and members of the Zawarmata Agro Farmer Producer Company.
The event featured a welcome address by COO Kishore S and a vote of thanks by IBU CEO Anshul Khandelwal.
Broad Participation and Community Impact
The programme was attended by notable guests including Pushkar Teli, sarpanches from Zawar, Mewatlai, Singhatawara, and Oda villages, as well as Hindustan Zinc’s Environment Head Hitendra Bhuptawat, HR Head Deepak Ghagreja, Cluster Head Radharman, Mahendra Suthar, Finance Head Raghav Pancholi, CSR Head Vivek Singh, Admin Head Gajanan Gupta, and Civil Head Rakesh Yadav. Also present were trainees from Zinc Football Academy, Sakhi women, farmers associated with Samadhan, and local community members.
The FPO supported by Hindustan Zinc currently has over 1,750 farmer-shareholders, ensuring that the initiative benefits both the environment and local income generation.
Employees, community members, business partners, and local stakeholders enthusiastically participated in the plantation activities, reflecting a strong sense of collective ownership and shared responsibility towards environmental conservation. This initiative further strengthens Hindustan Zinc’s broad vision of environmental stewardship, inclusive community engagement, and sustainable development.
