Shimla, May 17 — Relief from the scorching heat may soon be on the way for residents of Himachal Pradesh, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a significant change in weather patterns starting May 18. A Western Disturbance is expected to become active over the region, bringing with it thunderstorms, hailstorms, strong winds, and lightning across various districts for the next three days.

To ensure public safety, the Shimla Meteorological Centre has issued Yellow and Orange Alerts for different regions between May 18 and May 20.
🌩️ Rising Heat to Be Replaced by Stormy Weather
Over the past few days, maximum temperatures in the plains have crossed 40°C, with cities like Shimla also experiencing intense sunlight and dry conditions. The upcoming system is expected to disrupt this pattern and bring relief along with potential hazards.

The Meteorological Department has urged residents, farmers, and tourists to remain cautious, especially in mountainous and remote regions, where strong winds and lightning could pose a threat to life and property.
This erratic weather pattern in May—typically a stable period in Himachal Pradesh—is being attributed to the frequent activity of Western Disturbances. So far, the state has recorded approximately 30% more rainfall than average for the month.
