Shimla | May 14, 2025 – Himachal Pradesh is set to endure a five-day spell of rising temperatures, with maximums breaching the 35°C mark in at least eight cities, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The region, known for its temperate climate, is now witnessing early signs of summer intensity, with several areas reporting a sharp rise in day temperatures.

In the last 24 hours alone, many towns saw temperatures spike by up to 6°C, giving residents their first significant experience of summer warmth this May.
Una, Hamirpur Among Hottest; Manali Sees Steep Rise
Una recorded the state’s highest temperature at 39.6°C, followed by Hamirpur at 39°C, which also logged its hottest day of the season on Tuesday. Other towns that surpassed 35°C include Bilaspur, Kangra, Chamba, Mandi, Nahan, and Sundernagar.
Manali, a popular hill destination, saw a temperature surge of 5.6°C, reaching 24°C, while Bhuntar jumped by 5.2°C, now at 36.1°C. Reckong Peo and Kullu’s Bajoura also registered increases of 5.3°C and 4°C respectively.
Tourist Spots Remain Pleasant Despite Rising Heat
Despite the heat in the lower and mid-hills, Himachal’s major tourist destinations continue to enjoy pleasant weather. Current temperatures include:
-
Shimla – 26.5°C
-
Manali – 24.0°C
-
Narkanda – 19.9°C
-
Dharamshala – 31.1°C
-
Kufri – 20.2°C
-
Kasauli – 29.3°C
These conditions continue to attract visitors, especially from northern plains battling intense heat.
Dry Spell Until May 18, Rain Likely from May 19
The IMD forecasts clear and sunny weather from May 14 to 18 across most of Himachal Pradesh. While isolated light showers may occur, no widespread rainfall is expected during this period.
However, a new Western Disturbance is expected to become active from May 19, bringing chances of rain in high and mid-altitude regions. This could offer some respite from the current heatwave-like conditions.
Above-Normal Temperature Trend Begins
The average maximum temperature in the state has now risen 1.1°C above the seasonal normal, marking a shift from the cooler-than-usual conditions seen earlier this month.
The IMD advises residents, especially in the lower hill and plain regions, to stay hydrated, avoid peak sun exposure, and monitor updates for weather-related changes, particularly ahead of May 19.
