Srinagar, 3 September (Kiran News): Continuous rainfall across Kashmir has raised the water level in rivers and streams, prompting authorities to shut down the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway as a precautionary measure.
According to officials, the Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in the next 24 hours. As a result, all schools and colleges across the valley have been ordered to remain closed today.
While the Jhelum river and its tributaries are still flowing below the danger mark, water levels in water bodies—including in Srinagar and parts of South and Central Kashmir—have risen by about three feet since Tuesday’s rain began.
Landslides and falling rocks caused by heavy downpour have forced the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway for all types of vehicles. The heavy rain has also resulted in waterlogging and hazardous conditions in several areas.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged people to stay alert as more rain is expected.
