Heavy Rain Lashes Udaipur; Two Gates of Udaisagar Opened

Udaipur, October 27 (Udaipur Kiran): Continuous rain throughout Monday brought both relief and concern across the Udaipur division, as showers triggered by cyclonic activity over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea drenched the region.

Udaisagar

Light drizzle that began on Sunday night turned into steady rain by Monday morning, significantly dropping the temperature and bringing a distinct winter chill to the air. Rain resumed around 10:15 a.m. and continued intermittently till evening, keeping the sun hidden behind dense clouds and cool winds sweeping the city.

Udaisagar Dam Gates Opened

With water levels rising in catchment areas due to persistent rainfall, two gates of the Udaisagar were opened six inches each to release excess water. The discharged water is now flowing downstream into the Vallabhnagar Dam. Authorities from the district administration and the Water Resources Department remain on alert to monitor the situation.

Crops Damaged in Rural Areas

The rain has also affected rural parts of Mavli, Ghata, Kanod, Kudi, Bedla, and Jhadol, where heavy downpours since early morning have flooded several fields. Farmers reported damage to harvested maize and jowar crops, with losses estimated in lakhs of rupees. Stored fodder in many areas has also started rotting due to the moisture.

Farmers expressed concern that the untimely rain has come after harvest season, making it particularly harmful for standing and harvested crops alike.

Weather Department Issues Orange Alert

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Udaipur, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, and Chittorgarh districts, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. Officials reported a 4–5°C drop in temperature following the showers.

While the rain has made the weather pleasant for residents, it has also deepened worries for farmers, who now face significant crop and fodder losses due to the unexpected downpour.
