Bhopal, September 4 (Kiran News). The monsoon continues to remain highly active across Madhya Pradesh, with the Meteorological Department issuing an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in 26 districts on Thursday. The wet spell is expected to continue for the next three days, with the state already recording 39 inches of rainfall so far this season.
Since Wednesday night, Bhopal has been witnessing intermittent showers, ranging from light drizzle to heavy rain. Officials said a strong weather system has formed due to the combined effect of a monsoon trough and two cyclonic circulations.

According to the forecast, extremely heavy rainfall—up to 8.5 inches in the next 24 hours—is likely in Jhabua, Alirajpur, Barwani, Khargone, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Harda, Dewas, and Sehore. Heavy rain alerts have also been issued for Bhopal, Guna, Agar-Malwa, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Ujjain, Indore, Ratlam, Dhar, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Betul, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, and Balaghat.
On Wednesday, more than 25 districts received significant rainfall. Pachmarhi, Ratlam, and Narsinghpur recorded around 1 inch; Indore, Khargone, Bhopal, Gwalior, and Shivpuri received about 0.75 inch; while Ujjain, Damoh, and Raisen logged over 0.5 inch. Showers were also reported from Guna, Betul, Datia, Chhindwara, Mandla, Harda, Sagar, Seoni, Balaghat, Narmadapuram, Shajapur, and Umaria.
The heavy rainfall has forced authorities to release water from several dams. In Jabalpur, nine gates of Bargi Dam were opened. In Umaria, three gates of Johila Dam at the Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station were released. Shivpuri’s Madikheda Dam opened two gates, Gwalior’s Tighra Dam seven, and five gates of Tawa Dam were also opened.
In Harda district, rivers including Ajnal, Matkul, Dedli, Machak, and Ganjal are in spate, cutting off road connectivity to several villages. Rainfall continued in many areas overnight.
So far, the state has recorded 39 inches of rainfall this monsoon season, which is 105% of the normal average.
