Guwahati, April 8: In the 13th match of IPL 2026 held at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced off against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday. The rain-affected match saw RR’s batsmen dominate, leading to MI’s defeat by 27 runs. After the match, MI captain Hardik Pandya commended RR’s young opener Vaibhav Suryaanshi for his impressive performance.
Pandya remarked, “It was interesting to watch how Vaibhav played. His fearless batting and the variety of shots he possesses are remarkable. I wish him the best for the future; he just needs to learn from his mistakes.”
Additionally, Pandya took responsibility for the loss, attributing it to the team’s bowling failures. He stated, “I think we didn’t bowl as well as we should have. They batted well, and our bowlers need to take responsibility. As a bowling group, we didn’t perform well. I won’t blame the batsmen for this match; it was definitely a failure in bowling. In T20 cricket, it’s always about delivering the right balls. If you look at the 27 runs, it means we are talking about five good balls and five fewer sixes. If we had bowled correctly, we would have been in the match.”
The rain-affected game was played in a format of 11 overs each, with MI winning the toss and opting to bowl first.
RR’s openers, Vaibhav Suryaanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal, attacked MI’s bowlers from the first ball. They amassed 80 runs for the first wicket in just five overs, with Suryaanshi scoring 39 runs off 14 balls, including five sixes and one four. Jaiswal remained unbeaten at 77 runs off 32 balls, hitting four sixes and ten fours, helping RR set a target of 151 runs.
In response, MI struggled throughout their innings, losing key wickets early. Despite efforts from Naman Dhir and Sherfane Rutherford, who scored 25 runs each, MI could only reach 123 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 11 overs.
For RR, bowlers Jofra Archer and Tushar Deshpande took one wicket each, while Nandre Burger, Sandip Sharma, and Ravi Bishnoi claimed two wickets each. Yashasvi Jaiswal was named Player of the Match.
