Patna, May 2: Panic ensued on Friday evening when smoke began to billow from the power car of the Jan Sadharan Express train traveling from Saharsa to Amritsar near Simri Bakhtiyarpur railway station.
Witnesses reported that the smoke was caused by brake binding, leading to a chaotic atmosphere among passengers. In response to the alarming situation, passengers immediately pulled the emergency chain, bringing the train to a halt near an overbridge. As the train stopped, anxiety spread among the passengers, prompting many to evacuate as a precaution.
The train’s driver and guard quickly took charge of the situation, while railway staff onboard attempted to control the smoke using fire extinguishers. Despite their efforts, smoke continued to emanate for a while, escalating concerns. Railway officials promptly notified the local fire brigade, which arrived at the scene and collaborated with railway personnel to manage the situation.
After sustained efforts, the smoke was eventually brought under control. Following the incident, the train was carefully moved to platform number 1 at Simri Bakhtiyarpur station. After a brief halt, the train was allowed to continue its journey.
As a result of this incident, the Jan Sadharan Express experienced a delay of approximately 25 minutes. Railway officials have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the smoke, with initial assessments suggesting a technical malfunction related to brake binding. The Jan Sadharan Express is one of the key trains connecting Bihar with northern states like Punjab and Haryana.
