Google is reportedly working on introducing a new feature to its phone app for Pixel users that will allow them to search and identify unknown numbers. The feature, called Lookup, debuted on Pixel devices in Japan in March but never rolled out outside the region. According to reports, Google may now be planning to bring this feature to smartphones worldwide. Notably, last month’s report also revealed that Google is also testing a new phone app feature that will integrate WhatsApp call logs and carrier calls on the same page.

According to a report from PiunikaWeb (via AssembleDebug), a code thread related to this feature was discovered in beta version 127.0.620688474 of the Google Phone app. The search feature appears when the user taps a number that is not saved in their contacts. Find your phone number source using web search.
According to a screenshot shared by a tipster on X (formerly Twitter), the search icon appears as the fourth item in the list after the add contacts, messages, and history icons. Tapping the feature opens a bottom panel where users can choose from apps that allow them to search for numbers on the internet, the report shows. Google search is also an option that allows you to search directly on the Internet.
This feature is intended for business phone numbers that are most likely to be found on the Internet. This number does not appear to be for personal use as it is unlikely to be published on the Internet. Additionally, this feature does not currently integrate with caller ID apps like Truecaller, which focus on identifying individuals’ phone numbers.
It’s not clear when the feature will be available to Pixel smartphone users worldwide, but reports suggest it could roll out as early as June. Additionally, like most Pixel-only features, it’s unlikely to be available to Android smartphone users any time soon.
