Google Pixel 8a Surfaces on FCC Database, Hints at Imminent Launch

There have been rumors about the Google Pixel 8a for a few months now. Google has not yet confirmed the existence of a successor to the Pixel 7a, but the device was previously spotted on the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website, all but confirming its arrival. The Pixel 8a is said to support wireless charging and offer Wi-Fi 6E connectivity. It is expected to be unveiled at the Google I/O 2024 event in May.

The FCC listing, first spotted by Droidlife, confirms Google smartphones with model numbers G8HNN, GKV4X, G6GPR and G576D. These model numbers are believed to belong to different variants of the Pixel 8a. Google followed a similar numbering scheme with last year’s Pixel 7a. The G6GPR model number was revealed in early January as part of a retail box leak.

According to the FCC listing, the Pixel 8a supports wireless charging and offers connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 6E, NFC, 5G and mmW. The listing also suggests that a launch may not be far away.

Google unveiled the Pixel 7a during the Google I/O event last May. The company is expected to follow a similar plan for the launch of the Pixel 8a. This year’s Google I/O has been confirmed to take place on May 14, 2024.

According to previous leaks, the Pixel 8a may feature a 6.1-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate and run on Google’s Tensor G3 chip along with 8GB of RAM. It is said to have a 5,000mAh battery that supports 27W wired fast charging. It measures 152.1 x 72.6 x 8.9mm.

Pricing for the Pixel 8a reportedly starts at 570 euros (around Rs 51,000) for the base model with 128GB storage. The 256GB storage variant can cost €630 (approximately Rs. 56,000). It will be available in Bay (light blue), Mint (light green), Obsidian (black) and Porcelain (beige).
