Google has announced the end of business messaging features on Google Maps and Google Search. The feature, which allows users to chat with businesses directly from their profiles, will be permanently retired by July 31, 2024.
It’s important to us that Google continues to be your partner in managing your business, and we remain committed to that mission. The company says.

Google cited its focus on improving core performance as the reason for this decision. A company spokesperson said: “We continually evaluate our products to ensure they meet the evolving needs of our users and businesses. This decision reflects our shift towards a simpler communication experience. That shows.”
Blocking commercial messages could impact businesses that use this feature to communicate with customers. Consumers who prefer the convenience of in-app chat may need to adapt to alternative methods of communication.
Google hasn’t said anything about replacing business messages, but companies will likely be encouraged to use existing attributes like phone numbers, email addresses and website links in their Google business profiles.
