Gemini AI will reportedly soon be integrated into certain headphones, allowing users to access the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot without a paired smartphone. Google has continually expanded both the capabilities and scope of its in-house AI chatbot. Most Google apps now ship with the Gemini tool, and a new report suggests the company may be considering expanding it to more devices. Notably, there are also rumors that the company will launch the Pixel Buds Pro 2 later this year.
Gemini AI should come to headphones
According to 9to5Google, users will soon be able to access Gemini directly through their headphones. The publication found evidence of this integration in the Google app version 15.31 code thread. One of the strings is “Talk to Gemini with headphones.”
Additionally, another string reads “Whist Gemini Assistant Bud Notifications” and then “Your new AI assistant is using headphones.” Both of these messages are significant. The latter suggests that Gemini AI will be included in the headphones, while the former points to a “Bisto” form factor. The term Bisto was first used by Google in 2017 to describe a category of headphones that run Google Assistant.
So, based on the information, it seems that Gemini AI will only be available on headphones and earbuds that are integrated with Google Assistant. The main advantage of this integration is that users do not have to use their phone to type messages and can access the AI chatbot hands-free.
Even if your smartphone already has Gemini as the default virtual assistant, hitting “OK Google” will launch Google Assistant while wearing headphones. This integration replaces that and allows you to activate Gemini directly from paired headphones.
It should be noted that this is not the first time this feature has been noticed. A February report found evidence of the feature in beta versions of Google apps. At the time, a series of codes included the message: “The Gemini mobile app is working to expand access to headphones.” Based on the reported development status, the feature appears to be scheduled to roll out.
