The Election Commission has decided to call for a panel of names for the post of Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer from the State Chief Secretary. This comes in the wake of controversy over current CEO S B Shashank. The Commission held a meeting in New Delhi yesterday over the issue. The NGO Coordination Committee of Mizoram is questioning the removal of the state’s principal secretary (Home) by S B Shashank. They are also demanding his removal. A Commission spokesperson said that the poll panel has “decided to call for a panel of names for the post of State CEO from chief secretary of Mizoram.” However, the spokesperson said the “next steps” will “only be taken after receiving the report of the team led by Deputy Election Commissioner Sudip Jain”.
