Mumbai Indians Part Ways with Lasith Malinga Ahead of IPL 2027

Mumbai, October 29: Mumbai Indians (MI) have officially parted ways with former Sri Lankan cricketer Lasith Malinga as part of a coaching staff overhaul ahead of the IPL 2027 season. The franchise announced on Thursday that Malinga, along with two other coaches, Paras Mhambrey and Carl Hopkinson, will no longer be part of the men’s team coaching staff.

Malinga, who had a remarkable playing career with MI, joined the support staff as a bowling mentor during the 2018 season after retiring from professional cricket. He later took over as the fast-bowling coach before the IPL 2024 season, succeeding Shane Bond. Paras Mhambrey joined as an additional bowling coach before IPL 2025, while Carl Hopkinson was appointed as the fielding coach in 2024.

In a statement, Mumbai Indians expressed gratitude for the contributions and commitment of Malinga, Mhambrey, and Hopkinson. This change comes shortly after the franchise removed former captain Mahela Jayawardene from the head coach position, replacing him with West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard.

The team is expected to make further announcements regarding its coaching staff as they prepare for the upcoming season.
