Delhi-NCR Air Quality Crosses 450 Mark, Breathing Becomes Difficult

Noida, 24 November (Udaipur Kiran)। Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) remain under severe air pollution for the third consecutive week. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 396 on Monday, falling under the “very poor” category.

However, the situation in several parts of NCR is far more alarming, with AQI readings crossing the 450 mark. For the past 23 days, the region has been experiencing hazardous air quality, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that no improvement is expected over the next week.

Various monitoring stations paint a grim picture. In Delhi, localities such as Anand Vihar, Bawana, Burari Crossing, Mandir Marg, Wazirpur and Vivek Vihar recorded AQI levels ranging from “severe” to “very poor”.

The condition in NCR is even worse. Loni in Ghaziabad reported an AQI of 451, categorised as “severe”. Other areas in Ghaziabad such as Indirapuram (438), Sanjay Nagar (411) and Vasundhara (429) also recorded dangerously high pollution levels.

In Noida, sectors 125, 62, 1 and 116 all recorded AQI readings above 400, while Knowledge Park-V in Greater Noida reported an AQI of 441. Such “severe” levels adversely affect even healthy individuals and can be extremely harmful for those with heart or lung-related ailments.

In view of the critical air quality, the Delhi Government has issued guidelines allowing private offices to operate with 50% staff attendance, while the remaining employees work from home. The move aims to reduce outdoor exposure and bring down vehicular emissions.

According to IMD’s seven-day forecast, Delhi-NCR is likely to witness foggy and stagnant air conditions over the next week. The minimum temperature is expected to hover around 11°C, while the maximum may remain between 25–26°C. Such weather conditions hinder the dispersion of pollutants, increasing the likelihood of persistent poor air quality.
