Daryl Mitchell Ruled Out of West Indies ODI Series

Wellington, 18 November (Udaipur Kiran). New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against the West Indies. Henry Nicholls, who was brought in for the second ODI, will now remain with the squad for the entire series.

Mitchell experienced a thigh strain while scoring a century in the first ODI at Hagley Oval. His match-winning ton helped New Zealand secure a seven-run victory. Due to the injury, he did not return to the field for the second innings. A scan later confirmed a minor groin tear, requiring two weeks of rehabilitation.

According to team management, Mitchell is expected to be fully fit before the three-match Test series starting on 2 December.

Head coach Rob Walter said, “It is always tough to see a player leave a series early due to injury, especially when he is in such good form. Daryl has been our best ODI performer this summer, and his absence will certainly be felt. The positive thing is that the injury is minor and he will be available for the Test series.”

Welcoming Nicholls, Walter added, “Henry has been in excellent form in the Ford Trophy and is an experienced campaigner. It is always good to reward such players, and we believe he will give his best when given the opportunity.”
