Bhopal, 18 November (Udaipur Kiran). Winter conditions in Madhya Pradesh have intensified sharply, with temperatures dipping to record lows across several regions. Bhopal recorded its coldest November night ever, while Indore, Rajgarh and many other cities also witnessed unusually low temperatures. The Meteorological Department has issued cold wave and severe cold wave alerts for nearly half the state over the next 48 hours.

According to the department, Bhopal’s minimum temperature touched 5.2°C on Sunday–Monday night, breaking the previous November record of 6.1°C set in 1941. The temperature dropped by 1.2 degrees within a single night. Clear skies and strong northern winds are expected to continue, keeping conditions colder. A low-pressure area is likely to become active over the southeast Bay of Bengal from 22 November. Before that, the state will remain under cold wave alerts for the next two days.
Cold Wave Alert Issued for These Districts
A severe cold wave alert has been issued for Bhopal, Indore and Rajgarh on Tuesday. A cold wave warning is in place for Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, Khandwa, Harda, Betul, Dewas, Sehore, Shajapur, Vidisha, Raisen, Sagar, Shivpuri, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Satna, Panna, Damoh, Jabalpur, Katni, Maihar and Shahdol.
School Timings Changed
Indore Collector Shivam Verma has ordered schools to start from 9 am beginning 18 November. In Bhopal, the District Education Officer has instructed all schools not to hold classes for Nursery to Class 8 before 8:30 am. Gwalior, Dewas, Jhabua, Chhindwara, Sagar, Shahdol and Khandwa have also extended school timings due to the cold.
Night Temperatures Below 12°C Across State
On Sunday–Monday night, Indore recorded 7.2°C, Rajgarh 5°C, Gwalior 9.8°C, Ujjain 9.6°C and Jabalpur 9.3°C. Umaria recorded 7°C, while Chhatarpur’s Nowgaon reported 7.3°C. Betul recorded 8.2°C, Rewa 8.3°C and Malajkhand in Balaghat 8.4°C. Shivpuri and Dhar recorded 9°C, Mandla and Khajuraho 9.4°C, and Chhindwara 9.6°C. Damoh and Khandwa reported 10°C, while Sagar, Guna and Seoni recorded around 10.2°C. Ratlam, Sheopur and Khargone stood at 10.6°C, Datia at 10.7°C, Tikamgarh at 10.8°C and Narsinghpur and Satna at 11°C. The department confirmed that minimum temperatures across the state have remained below 12°C.
Daytime Temperatures Also Fall in Several Districts
Malajkhand in Balaghat, Seoni, Sidhi and Pachmarhi remained the coldest during the day on Monday, recording 22.8°C, 24.4°C, 24.6°C and 24.8°C respectively. Bhopal recorded 25.4°C, Indore 26.1°C, Gwalior 27.5°C, Ujjain 28°C and Jabalpur 25.5°C. Betul, Narsinghpur, Nowgaon and Rewa also recorded daytime temperatures below 26°C.
