Madrid, April 8: Bayern Munich has secured a strong advantage towards reaching the semifinals by defeating Real Madrid 2-1 in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals.
Luis Diaz and Harry Kane scored for Bayern, while Kylian Mbappe netted the only goal for Madrid. Bayern created several opportunities during the match and felt they could have won by a larger margin.
Madrid’s coach, Alvaro Arbeloa, gave young midfielder Thiago Pitarch a chance, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alvaro Carreras were deployed as full-backs. Bayern benefited significantly from Kane’s fitness.
The match began with a boost for Bayern as Kane started, making an immediate impact, although Dayot Upamecano missed a chance from a header off a free kick.
Madrid countered, with Manuel Neuer making impressive saves to deny Mbappe and Vinicius Junior from scoring.

Madrid attempted to fight back, bringing on Jude Bellingham in the 72nd minute, and Mbappe reduced the deficit with a goal in the 74th minute.
In the final minutes, both teams created chances, but neither could find the back of the net. Bayern’s Jamal Musiala, among others, missed opportunities that could have increased their lead.
With this victory, Bayern Munich has gained a crucial advantage in the first leg and is now close to securing a place in the semifinals.
