Udaipur: A shocking incident took place on Tuesday afternoon at the Udaipur court complex when the ceiling of the ACJM JM-1 (South) court chamber collapsed, injuring the magistrate on the head. Court staff immediately rushed the injured magistrate to the hospital.
In a complaint filed with the police, the court reader, Prakash Jain, alleged that the Public Works Department (PWD) officials and the contractor had carried out substandard construction work, despite receiving the full budget. The complaint further stated that the PWD had been previously informed about the poor quality of work in the court but had taken no action.
The incident occurred around 1:40 PM when the presiding officer, Devendrapuri, was having lunch in his chamber. The plaster, iron frame, and false ceiling of the chamber suddenly collapsed, directly hitting him on the head.
The complaint accuses the PWD officials and the contractor of embezzlement by carrying out substandard construction work despite receiving the full budget. The complaint also mentions that the court had previously written to the PWD officials regarding the poor quality of work and had requested a physical inspection and appropriate action, but no action was taken.
It is important to note that this is not the first incident of its kind in this court complex. In August 2022, a portion of the ceiling had collapsed, and the PWD had carried out repair work worth Rs. 7.43 lakh after the High Court had allocated the funds.
