Dharamshala, May 14: The Punjab Kings (PBKS) have made history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by becoming the only team to score eight double centuries in two different seasons. They achieved this remarkable feat during the ongoing IPL 2026, having previously accomplished the same in 2025.
Only three teams in IPL history have managed to hit the 200-run mark eight times in a single season. The Gujarat Titans achieved this in IPL 2025, while the Sunrisers Hyderabad matched the record in IPL 2026.
In a match held at the HPCA Stadium, the Punjab Kings scored 200 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh provided a strong start, putting together a partnership of 50 runs off 33 balls for the first wicket.
Priyansh scored 22 runs off 17 balls, hitting four boundaries before getting out. Prabhsimran then partnered with Cooper Connolly to add 57 runs for the second wicket off 35 balls, taking the team’s score to 107. However, the fall of Prabhsimran, who scored 57 runs off 32 balls, triggered a collapse in the batting order.
Ajmatullah Omarzai contributed a quick 38 runs off 17 balls, including four sixes and two fours, while Javier Bartlett (not out on 18) and Vishnu Vinod (not out on 15) helped the team reach a total of 200/8.
For the Mumbai Indians, Shardul Thakur was the standout bowler, claiming four wickets for 39 runs, while Deepak Chahar picked up two wickets. Corbin Bosch and Raj Bawa each took one wicket.
With this victory, the Punjab Kings aim to secure third place in the points table. Currently, they are fourth with 13 points from six wins out of eleven matches, while the Mumbai Indians are struggling at ninth place, having lost eight out of their eleven games.
