Bijapur, October 24 (Udaipur Kiran): A tragic incident has been reported from the Abujhmad region spanning Bijapur and Narayanpur districts of Chhattisgarh, where five people have died and dozens have fallen ill after allegedly consuming contaminated food.

According to officials, the incident came to light on October 21 morning, when several villagers suddenly complained of vomiting, diarrhoea, and severe stomach pain. Upon receiving the information, district administration officials and health department teams rushed to the spot to assess the situation.
Emergency health camps were immediately set up in the affected villages, and medical treatment was initiated. Those in critical condition were shifted to the Narayanpur District Hospital for advanced care.
Preliminary investigation suggests that villagers may have consumed spoiled or contaminated food. Health officials have collected food samples from the site and sent them to a laboratory for testing. Meanwhile, health workers are conducting awareness campaigns in nearby villages, advising residents to consume boiled water and freshly cooked food.
The outbreak has also affected parts of Bhairamgarh block in Bijapur district, where similar symptoms were reported among villagers from Uspuri and Kiskal. One patient, Pallavi Parsa, has been admitted to Bhairamgarh Hospital, and her condition is said to be stable.
Both Bijapur and Narayanpur district administrations have declared a high alert and deployed continuous medical surveillance teams to prevent further spread of illness.
The Collector of Narayanpur has ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident and directed officials to submit a report promptly. Dedicated health teams will remain stationed in the affected villages over the next few days to monitor the situation and provide necessary care.
Authorities have urged villagers to boil water before drinking and to report any symptoms immediately to nearby health centres. Health officials will continue to maintain close contact with local residents to ensure rapid response and medical support.
