PM Modi Pays Tribute to Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur at Karpoori Gram

Samastipur, October 24 (Udaipur Kiran): Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bihar on a one-day visit on Friday and paid floral tribute to Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur at Karpoori Gram in Samastipur district.

PM Modi Bihar visit

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Ram Nath Thakur, son of the late leader. During his visit, PM Modi interacted with the family members of former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur and observed his personal belongings and memorabilia. He also met and conversed with local artists present at the venue.

It is noteworthy that the Narendra Modi-led central government had posthumously conferred the ‘Bharat Ratna’ on Karpoori Thakur earlier this year. The late leader, who served as Bihar’s Chief Minister, is remembered as a prominent socialist figure who championed social justice and upliftment of the backward classes. His landmark reservation and welfare policies left a lasting impact on Bihar’s socio-political landscape.

Karpoori Thakur was a freedom fighter, visionary politician, and a staunch advocate for farmers, women, and marginalized communities. Known as ‘Jan Nayak’ or people’s leader, he devoted his life to strengthening democracy and realizing the constitutional ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity in everyday governance.

Born on January 24, 1924, in Pitaunjhia (now Karpoori Gram) in Darbhanga (now Samastipur) district, Karpoori Thakur hailed from a socially and educationally backward family but rose to become one of Bihar’s most respected leaders.

Later in the day, PM Modi is scheduled to address two major public rallies in Bihar — the first at Police Line Ground, Dudhpur, Samastipur, and the second at Ulav Airstrip Ground in Begusarai. Large crowds have already gathered at both venues ahead of his arrival.

The Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases — on November 6 and 11, while counting of votes is scheduled for November 14.
