Sheopur, April 4, 2025 – In a dramatic incident that has caught the attention of wildlife enthusiasts and locals alike, a female cheetah named Jwala, released into the wild from Kuno National Park, has been seen hunting goats along with her four cubs. The event occurred near Umri Kalan village in the Agra forest range, sparking fear among villagers and drawing renewed attention to India’s cheetah reintroduction project.

Cheetah Family’s Bold Move into Village Fields
According to local farmer Chauhan Dhakad, the cheetah family entered his mustard fields around 6:30 PM on Friday. Jwala and her cubs attacked a group of six goats grazing in the area, killing all of them within minutes. Villagers, alarmed by the sudden presence of the big cats, captured the scene on video, which has since gone viral across social media platforms.
The footage shows Jwala fearlessly hunting while her cubs participate and observe. Though villagers were nearby with sticks in hand, they chose not to intervene, allowing the cheetahs to finish their kill undisturbed. Wildlife authorities were informed immediately.
Forest Officials Respond, Urge Caution
A team from the Kuno National Park tracking unit arrived at the location shortly after the incident. They inspected the fields and gathered statements from the villagers. In light of safety concerns, the forest department has advised residents to avoid venturing into known cheetah zones.
District Forest Officer R. Thirukural commented on the situation:
“Cheetah Jwala has been active in the Agra range of Kuno for the past few days. Though reports suggest a successful hunt, confirmation will only come after review from the monitoring team.”
Concerns and Conservation Implications
This is not the first time cheetahs have entered human-inhabited areas around the park, raising questions about human-wildlife conflict and how the reintroduction project will evolve. While the hunt underscores Jwala’s successful adaptation to the wild, it also stresses the importance of clear boundaries and public awareness in such projects.
