Phnom Penh, December 29 – After several days of clashes between Cambodia and Thailand, efforts for reconciliation have resumed. Cambodia has officially proposed a ‘quick border meeting’ to Thailand. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has once again taken credit, comparing the United States to the United Nations.
The Cambodian Secretariat of State for Border Affairs issued a press release on Monday. According to the statement, Cambodia has sent a diplomatic note to Thailand proposing a meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Commission on Land Demarcation in Siem Reap province during the first week of January 2026.
The purpose of this meeting is to discuss how to restart joint surveys and demarcation work to ensure peace along the shared border. However, there has been no official response or progress reported from the Thai side so far.
On the other hand, President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, “I am pleased to announce that the fighting between Thailand and Cambodia will pause for some time, and they will live peacefully according to our recent real agreement. I congratulate both great leaders for their ability to reach this fast and very correct outcome. It was quick and decisive, as it should be in all such situations.”
Comparing the US to the UN, Trump further stated, “America, as always, was proud to help. In the past eleven months, the wars and conflicts I have resolved or stopped in eight months probably made America the real United Nations, which has done little or no help in many of them, including the ongoing devastation between Russia and Ukraine. The United Nations should start being active and involved in world peace.”
