Bumrahs Magic Leads India to T20 World Cup Victory

Ahmedabad, March 9: Team India has claimed the T20 World Cup title for the third time, defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final held at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium. Jasprit Bumrah emerged as the hero with the ball, taking four wickets and breaking Lasith Malinga’s record for the most wickets in T20 World Cups.

Bumrah delivered an exceptional performance, conceding just 15 runs in his four overs while claiming key wickets. He now holds the record for the most wickets by a fast bowler in T20 World Cup history, surpassing Malinga with a total of 40 wickets compared to Malinga’s 38. In the final, Bumrah dismissed Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, James Neesham, and Matt Henry.

Chasing a target of 256 runs set by India, New Zealand was bowled out for 159 runs. Tim Seifert was the top scorer for New Zealand with 52 runs, while Mitchell Santner contributed 43 runs. The rest of the Kiwi batsmen struggled against the Indian bowlers. Alongside Bumrah, Axar Patel also shone with the ball, taking three wickets for 27 runs, while Varun Chakravarthy and Hardik Pandya claimed one wicket each.

Earlier, after losing the toss, India posted a formidable score of 255 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs, marking the highest score in a T20 World Cup knockout match. Sanju Samson scored a powerful 89 runs off 46 balls, achieving a half-century for the third consecutive match. Abhishek Sharma added 52 runs off just 21 balls, and Ishan Kishan contributed 54 runs from 25 balls at a strike rate of 216. Shivam Dube finished the innings with an unbeaten 26 runs off eight balls.

With this victory, India becomes the first country to win the T20 World Cup on home soil and has made history by winning the tournament for the second consecutive time.
