Udaipur | May 19, 2025 — A sudden shift in weather brought much-needed relief to Udaipur on Monday afternoon as strong winds and a spell of heavy rain swept through the city, breaking the streak of intense heat and humidity. However, the abrupt stormy conditions led to a boat capsizing incident in Fatehsagar Lake, causing a scare among tourists. Fortunately, all passengers were rescued unharmed, thanks to timely response and safety precautions.

Rain Brings Relief, but Also Disruptions
The rainfall lasted for approximately 30 minutes, bringing a noticeable drop in temperature and a refreshing chill to the air. The spell was welcomed by residents grappling with sweltering heat over the past two days. However, the sudden storm also led to power outages in several parts of the city and disruption of internet services, affecting normal life.
Boat Carrying 35 Tourists Capsizes Amid High Winds
The most concerning incident occurred in Fatehsagar Lake, where a tourist boat carrying around 35 passengers capsized due to the rough weather and strong winds. All passengers were wearing life jackets, which averted a major tragedy. Upon receiving the alert, Civil Defence teams and local administration rushed to the site and promptly launched a rescue operation. All individuals were safely brought to shore without injuries.
Tree Falls on Vehicles, No Injuries Reported
The storm also caused a large tree to collapse on Gulab Bagh Road, damaging several two-wheelers parked nearby. Luckily, there were no casualties, as no pedestrians were in the immediate vicinity when the tree fell. Locals assisted in clearing the site and removing the damaged vehicles from under the fallen branches.
Waterlogging and Slippery Roads Reported
In other areas of the city, including Rupsagar Road, waterlogging was observed, causing inconvenience to commuters. Slippery road conditions due to the rain led to difficult driving conditions, especially for two-wheeler riders.
IMD Had Issued Yellow Alert for Udaipur
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had already issued a yellow alert for Udaipur district, warning of gusty winds and localized rainfall. The sudden change in weather, although disruptive, came as a welcome reprieve from the persistent heatwave conditions.
As the city returns to normalcy, authorities have urged residents and tourists to exercise caution during unpredictable weather, particularly near water bodies and during outdoor travel.
