Berlin, March 26, 2025 – In a significant move to democratize its electric lineup, Audi AG has confirmed plans to launch its most affordable electric vehicle in 2026, a year ahead of its previously scheduled debut. The upcoming EV will mark a new chapter in Audi’s e-mobility strategy, positioning itself to directly compete with entry-level electric models like the Mercedes-Benz CLA EV and BMW iX1.

Audi Fast-Tracks Budget EV to 2026
Audi’s CEO, Gernot Döllner, shared in an interview with German publication Süddeutsche Zeitung that the new EV project, initially planned for a 2027 launch, has now been fast-tracked to 2026. The new model will be manufactured at Audi’s Ingolstadt facility in Germany, further supporting the brand’s commitment to building premium, sustainable vehicles domestically.
While the company remains tight-lipped on the exact name and specifications, sources suggest that the EV will share its platform with a Volkswagen Group model, likely the VW ID.2, built on the MEB Entry platform.
Platform Sharing with Volkswagen ID.2all
The upcoming Audi EV is rumored to borrow from the Volkswagen ID.2all concept, which was unveiled in 2023. Based on the cost-efficient MEB Entry platform, the ID.2all is equipped with a 223 bhp electric motor and offers a range of up to 450 km (WLTP). The platform is designed to deliver Golf-level space with Polo-like pricing, and Audi is expected to build a more premium version of this setup.
This strategic platform sharing will help Audi reduce development costs, allowing it to price the vehicle competitively in the growing mid-range EV market.
Competition and Global Rollout Plans
Once launched, Audi’s entry-level electric model will rival Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming CLA EV and BMW’s iX1, both key players in the entry-premium EV space. Currently, Audi’s most affordable EV offering is the Q4 e-tron, but the new model is expected to slot below it, making the brand more accessible to a wider consumer base.
While a global launch is confirmed for 2026, India is also expected to be part of Audi’s market strategy, with a possible debut in late 2026 or early 2027.
More details regarding the body style, range, interior features, and pricing will be revealed closer to the official unveil next year.
