AL AIN : Within various initiatives launched for the UAE Year of Sustainability 2023, Al Ain Zoo has distributed about 30 saplings of various native plants to residents of Al Ain city, which included Banana, Hibiscus, Pomegranate, Arta, and Ipomoea saplings.
The initiative, under the title “Sustainability Journey… Today for Tomorrow”, aims to promote community participation by encouraging and instilling the concepts of environmental sustainability in children, while promoting the Zoo’s efforts and vision in achieving sustainability in the areas of wildlife conservation and ecotourism.
The distribution of saplings took place over three days, where random residents’ homes in Al Ain were presented with pots containing the tree saplings, along with a motivational card from the Zoo addressing children in particular with instructions on how to take care of their new plants.
The card calls on the community and future generations to support agricultural sustainability. It said: “This is an invitation to the generations of the future, our hope for a better and greener tomorrow: if you think that your contribution to our initiative today is small, let us remind you that you are taking part in a very significant journey that is bound to take our country a step further along the road of sustainability.
From our arboretum, we are presenting this sapling to you as a call to be part of the Year of Sustainability, because today’s work is inevitably tomorrow’s fruit that we shall reap. We hope that this shrub will find its place in your garden, and we trust that you will nurture it and give it your utmost care. We urge that you do it – for you, your grandchildren and the whole UAE.
