Noida, March 7: The air quality index (AQI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) is showing signs of deterioration once again. After a brief improvement due to strong winds over the past few days, pollution levels are on the rise.
Recent data indicates that several areas in Greater Noida and Ghaziabad have recorded AQI levels that exceed the red mark, indicating a serious category of air quality. Meanwhile, many regions in Delhi and Noida remain between the ‘poor’ and ‘very poor’ categories.
The situation appears most concerning in Greater Noida, where an AQI of 331 was recorded at Knowledge Park-5, classified as harmful to health. Knowledge Park-3 recorded an AQI of 202, which falls into the poor category.
Similarly, pollution levels have surged in several areas of Ghaziabad. An AQI of 312 was noted in Loni and 301 in Sanjay Nagar, indicating a critical situation. Additionally, Indirapuram recorded an AQI of 273 and Vasundhara 271, both categorized as ‘very poor.’
In Noida, various sectors are also showing alarming air quality levels. Sector-125 recorded an AQI of 278, Sector-1 at 262, and Sector-116 at 269, all falling under the ‘very poor’ category. Sector-62 recorded an AQI of 201, which is classified as poor.
In Delhi, air quality is also unsatisfactory in several areas. Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 278, Ashok Vihar 263, Bawana 260, and Burari Crossing 251. Additionally, Chandni Chowk recorded an AQI of 239, Commonwealth Sports Complex 231, and CRRI Mathura Road 210. However, the cantonment area recorded an AQI of 177 and Aaya Nagar 197, which are relatively better compared to other regions.
According to the meteorological department, temperatures are expected to rise steadily in the coming days. The seven-day forecast indicates a minimum temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 32 degrees Celsius on March 7. On March 8 and 9, the minimum temperature is expected to be 17 degrees, with a maximum of 33 degrees. From March 10 to 12, maximum temperatures could reach 34 degrees, while minimum temperatures are likely to remain between 16 and 17 degrees. Clear weather and strong sunshine are also anticipated.
Experts suggest that the rise in temperature and a decrease in wind speed lead to the accumulation of pollutant particles in the atmosphere, resulting in an increase in AQI levels. People are advised to exercise caution when going outside in the morning and evening, wear masks, and pay special attention to children and the elderly.
