Udaipur, June 12: A severe storm accompanied by pre-monsoon rains wreaked havoc in the Shyopur district of Madhya Pradesh on Friday afternoon. In two separate incidents, four people, including three members of the same family, lost their lives, while one person sustained injuries.
The most tragic incident occurred in the village of Suswada in the Awda police station area, where a temporary tin shed collapsed during the storm, resulting in the deaths of three agricultural laborers. According to Awda police station in-charge Dharmendra Malviya, the four-member family was guarding their moong crop in Rajpura village when the weather suddenly turned severe, prompting them to seek shelter under the tin shed.
During this time, a concrete wall adjacent to the shed collapsed due to strong winds, causing the shed to fall and trapping everyone underneath. The deceased were identified as Bhima Adivasi (40), his wife Seema Adivasi (38), and their daughter-in-law Rajwati Adivasi (21). Another family member was injured and has been sent to a hospital in Kelwada, Rajasthan for treatment.
Upon receiving the information, police and local residents immediately launched a rescue operation. All individuals were extricated from the debris and taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared three of them dead. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation, recording statements from eyewitnesses.
In another incident, an auto-rickshaw parked by the roadside overturned due to the strong winds in the Salapura area, resulting in the death of 80-year-old Bharosi Bai Vaishnav on the spot.
The storm and rains caused numerous trees to uproot, damaged mud houses, disrupted power lines, and led to power outages in several areas. Traffic was also affected for several hours due to fallen trees on the roads.
However, the rainfall provided relief to residents from the intense heat, with the maximum temperature in Shyopur dropping from 41 degrees Celsius earlier in the week to approximately 36 degrees Celsius on Friday. The meteorological department has predicted light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in Shyopur and nearby districts over the next 24 hours.
