New Delhi, June 11: The England A women’s team has announced its squad for the upcoming series against the India A women’s team, which will feature three T20 and three ODI matches in June and July. Surrey’s wicketkeeper-batter Kira Chathli has been appointed as the captain of the England A team.
The squad includes three players who have previously played at the senior level: Jodie Grewcock, Rhianna McDonald-Gay, and Charis Pavely. Several other players are also looking to make their mark in the England team, including Devina Perrin, Grace Scrivens, and Sophia Smale.
John Lewis, the head batting coach of the England women’s team, has been entrusted with the responsibility of the A team.
Lewis stated, “The series against India will be another opportunity to assess the level of this group of players. Being selected for the A team is proof that you are on the right path. The next challenge is to secure a place in the senior team.”
He added, “Playing a series against another country always provides us with learning opportunities. I am very happy for Kira, and I am sure she will be excited to lead the team. She has a lot to learn.”
Chathli has captained Surrey’s 50-over team this season, leading them to victory in five out of eight matches in the tournament’s first phase.
The series will begin with three T20 matches followed by three ODIs between the India and England A women’s teams. The first T20 is scheduled for June 20 in Northampton, the second T20 will also be in Northampton on June 23, and the third T20 will take place in Chelmsford on June 25.
The first ODI is set for June 28, the second ODI on July 1, and the third ODI on July 4, all to be played in Taunton.
