Irans Foreign Minister Claims US Actions Render April Ceasefire Ineffective

Tehran, June 12: Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi stated on Thursday that recent US attacks have rendered the ceasefire established in April ineffective. In a phone conversation with the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, Araghchi condemned the recent US strikes, labeling them as a blatant violation of the UN Charter and international law.

According to Xinhua, he also emphasized that the US is responsible for the dangerous consequences of its attacks. The US Central Command announced on Thursday morning that its forces had conducted strikes on several Iranian positions in response to what they described as Iran’s unwarranted and ongoing attacks.

CENTCOM stated on X that “CENTCOM forces targeted Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communication systems, and air defense sites across Iran. Assets from the US Marine Corps, Air Force, and Navy launched precision strikes on Iranian targets that posed threats to US forces and international commercial vessels in the area.”

The statement further noted, “These strikes were conducted in response to Iran’s unwarranted and continuous attacks. The US military remains vigilant, dangerous, and prepared.”

Following the attacks, Iran’s main military command, the Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, announced that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed to all types of vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships.

Additionally, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that they targeted US bases in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain in retaliation for the American strikes.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump threatened new military action against Iran, stating that the US could ultimately take control of Iran’s vital oil infrastructure. This statement came just hours after the US forces neutralized a third commercial tanker accused of breaching Washington’s blockade against Tehran.

President Trump wrote on Truth Social, “The US will launch a very strong attack on Iran tonight.”
