Gonda, Uttar Pradesh – A tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district claimed the lives of 11 people on Sunday morning when a speeding Bolero vehicle lost control and plunged into the Saryu canal. Most of the deceased belonged to the same family. The victims were on their way to offer jal at the Prithvinath temple.

The Bolero was carrying 15 people at the time of the accident. Local villagers managed to rescue four individuals by breaking the vehicle’s window. The remaining 11 could not escape and died struggling inside the vehicle.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. in the Motiganj police station area. Due to heavy rainfall, the canal was overflowing. As soon as the vehicle hit the water, its doors got locked and the cabin quickly filled with water. None of the passengers could exit on their own and tragically drowned inside.
Eyewitnesses said that nearby villagers jumped into the canal to help after seeing the vehicle fall. However, they were unable to open the doors and could only save four people by breaking the windows.
Police reached the spot within ten minutes and launched a full rescue operation. Authorities broke the front windshield of the vehicle to pull out the passengers one by one and brought them to the roadside. The Bolero is still stuck in the canal.
A video from the scene shows the aftermath of the tragedy, with 11 bodies lying on the road. In the footage, some people can be seen trying to revive their loved ones with CPR — one attempting to save a daughter, another a son.
According to the police, the vehicle was travelling at a speed of 60 km/h at the time of the accident. The deceased include six women, two men, and three children. They have been identified as Bina (35), Kajal (22), Mehak (12), Durgesh, Nandini, Ankit, Shubh, Sanju Verma, Anju, Anasuiya, and Soumya.
A local resident said that the victims included Prahlad Kasodhan’s family and relatives, all residents of Siha village under Motiganj police station. Prahlad managed an inter-college in the village called Mewalal Madhyamik Vidyalaya. They had left their village at around 9:30 a.m. for Prithvinath temple, located 50 km away. The accident occurred after they had completed half the journey, covering around 25 km.
